Description

Are you a veterinarian looking for a new challenge? Are you keen to apply your veterinary leadership skills to developing and managing disease surveillance programs in South Australia?

We are looking for a manager to lead the Disease Surveillance team and program within the Animal Biosecurity Branch in South Australia. The Disease Surveillance program is focused on detecting exotic, new or emerging diseases in animals; demonstrating freedom from important, trade-sensitive diseases; monitoring for unusual patterns of significant endemic disease occurrence; and communicating important information with stakeholders.

This is an opportunity to be part of a supportive, friendly team, with flexibility within your work, and lots of opportunities to apply your leadership skills and develop within the role and team.

What will I do on a day-to-day basis?
This is primarily an office-based role working to develop and lead the strategic direction of the Disease Surveillance program. You will have oversight and direct the Disease Surveillance team and provide scientific and technical advice to the broader Animal Biosecurity team. As a member of the senior management group in Animal Biosecurity, you will work to support the other managers and the Chief Veterinary Officer to provide leadership of Animal Biosecurity. In the role, you will develop and oversee policies and procedures to support all Disease Surveillance programs, including aspects such as disease investigation, data collection, private veterinary liaison, government laboratory services, and stakeholder communications. You will work closely with Disease Surveillance staff, the other program managers, and the Chief Veterinary Officer. You will also liaise with colleagues in other state and national government agencies on issues of significance to animal health.

Additional benefits of working with PIRSA Animal Health:

  • flexible working hours, which are family-friendly
  • the option to do some of your working days/hours from home, if desired
  • no regular after-hours or weekend work is required
  • opportunities to undertake relevant training or further education

Salary
$107,448 to $116,936 per annum (PO4)
