Your New Role

We are looking for a talented manager and leader, with a strong background in plant biosecurity and diagnostics.

You will work under general direction from the General Manager, Partnerships and Innovation to lead the development of a cost-effective and sustainable national approach to plant biosecurity diagnostics to achieve PHA’s strategic goals. The position provides leadership, strengthens effective partnerships and enhances integration to support PHA’s aim of improving Australia’s ability to identify and detect biosecurity threats. You will be responsible for managing staff, projects and activities in the areas of diagnostics and RD&E.

There is occasional interstate travel required for this position.

If you have:

  • demonstrated experience in research, government industry or other relevant areas, including developing and managing programs/projects in plant biosecurity;
  • excellent communication, interpersonal and stakeholder relationship skills;
  • the ability to work autonomously while managing diverse functions and competing priorities; and
  • graduate qualifications in science (majoring in plant health disciplines), agriculture (or equivalent)

The PHA Office is in Canberra, however, remote working arrangements will be considered for suitably qualified and experienced candidates. The role is available on a full-time basis for an initial period of up to July 2024, with the potential for extension. The remuneration range (inc. 10.5% superannuation) is $125,804 to $148,678, depending on skills and experience.

PHA is very interested in suitably qualified graduates to fill Graduate Project Officer roles, and possibly Project Officer roles, at times.  We usually recruit three to six Graduate/Project Officers a year, as vacancies arise.
