About DPI Biosecurity and Food Safety
Within NSW DPI, the Biosecurity & Food Safety Division is responsible for effective management and risk minimisation of biosecurity threats to NSW as well as the through-chain regulation of food safety. It delivers a risk-based approach to policy and compliance and provides regional engagement and coordination in response to emergency incidents and natural disasters impacting primary industries and the food sector.
About the role
You will be responsible for leading a team in the development and implementation of contemporary animal biosecurity programs, policies and projects in NSW by integrating scientific information, commercial requirements and biosecurity strategy.
Your priorities will be to:
- Lead strategically important programs within the Animal Biosecurity unit such as livestock traceabiity, system development and will vary depending on risk and current critical issues
- Lead small agile teams that work across the unit to deliver contemporary policy and projects
- Focus will be on delivery of a number of funded projects that are instrumental to achieving success in animal biosecurity outcomes
- Provide operational business support to the Group Director and team leaders
What you need to be successful as our Manager Animal Traceability & Biosecurity Programs
- Tertiary qualifications in Ag/Vet Science, Food Technology, Public Policy or other relevant discipline, or equivalent relevant experience
- Current NSW Class C Driver License
- Understanding of biosecurity procedures and practices
- Experience in high level policy analysis, formulation, interpretation and evaluation
Our ideal candidate will have outstanding stakeholder engagement skills with the ability to promote and influence best practice. You will enjoy working as part of a team and have the ability to supervise contractors in project related tasks when appropriate. A knowledge and understanding of QA/QC and WHS protocols for data collection, data storage, data analysis procedures will be an advantage.
