Proactive monitoring of all animals is a must, in particular our vulnerable aging and special needs residents.
The role further entails the scheduling and overseeing the implementation of monthly animal health checks along with the identifying of any health issues and responding to the same, along with staff training as needed. This position is accountable for ensuring medical records are promptly updated and maintained, and to oversee or perform health procedures (i.e wound care, administering medications etc.) as needed, as well as basic health care (i.e hoof, tusk, beak and nail trims, and more). Additionally, this role entails working closely with vets and animal health care professionals both during on-site visits and determining animal health care and rehabilitation plans.
This role requires a proactive and forward-thinking approach advancing our team's understanding of farmed animals by scheduling training sessions, undertaking research and collaborating with other animal professionals.
Pasture rotation, provision of shelter and a safe environment for animals at all times forms an essential part of this role along with the timeliness of task completion, maintenance of hygiene standards, and OH&S standards are maintained.
Edgar’s Mission takes great pride in delivering the highest standard of animal care whilst ensuring the best experiences for all resident animals, staff, volunteers and visitors. This position requires a commitment to this goal.
