  • Location: Willing to consider candidates across all NSW locations. Preference will be given to candidates based regionally, with a focus on Queanbeyan, Armidale, Dubbo and Coffs Harbour 
  • Clerk Grade 11/12, Salary from $139,787pa to $161,663 pa + super

About the role

This is an amazing opportunity, you will provide expert advice on terrestrial and/or aquatic biosecurity, and emergency management and its impact on primary industry. The role provides technical and scientific insight to assist in the formulation of advice on government policy, programs, and emergency issues including animal pest and disease outbreaks. The role also has up to 8 direct reports.

 

Your priorities will be to:

  • Provide world class scientific leadership and capability in biological, aquatic and veterinary science to ensure that programs, policy and emergency management integrate the latest knowledge and research
  • Provide expert scientific advice to the Chief Veterinary Officer on biosecurity  matters to inform DPI policy and program development, and emergency management strategies
  • Identify animal biosecurity risks, strategies, and priorities statewide to align with national initiatives and enhance biosecurity and emergency management
  • Foster collaborations with governmental and non-governmental research entities, universities, and partners to exchange knowledge on animal biosecurity and veterinary science
  • Craft briefs, policies, and papers to address requests from Ministers, Cabinet, or departmental inquiries

 

To excel in this role, you should possess the following knowledge and experience:

  • An understanding of animal biosecurity procedures and practices
  • Experience in high level policy analysis, formulation, interpretation and evaluation
  • Management of teams
  • Extensive experience in biosecurity risk identification, and management, problem solving and policy solution development
  • Experience in managing and/or coordinating resources in an animal biosecurity emergency situation

 

Essential requirements

  • Degree or equivalent experience in relevant aquatic biological, veterinary science or management fields
  • Current NSW Class C Drivers Licence or equivalent.
