Description

The livestock role is to look after our on site livestock, where we have a variety of livestock animals needing care. This role provides to the physical health and behavioural needs of all animals housed in the Centre as rostered to ensure that they are provided with the five freedoms outlined in the Animal Welfare Act 1999.  You will also be responsible for the incoming and outgoing of livestock to foster, and processing adoption applications. This is a busy role, where no two days will be the same, the successful candidate will need to have livestock experience and be confident around large animals, self-motivated, technologically savvy, energetic, passionate about providing positive welfare outcomes for animals and show a high level of initiative.

What we need from you:

  • Qualifications or relevant experience in the Livestock or production animals/welfare industry is required
  • Experience in handling Equines, preferably in a rescue/rehabilitation environment
  • Confidence in handling Livestock animals displaying a range of temperaments
  • Experience in Animal drug administration
  • A sound understanding of animal behaviour – normal v abnormal
  • An understanding of Contagious and Zoonotic diseases is desirable
  • Hold a full licence and have the ability to drive a manual vehicle competently. The ability to tow a trailer is desired.
  • Ability to work effectively without supervision and effectively prioritise daily tasks
  • Excellent interpersonal skills – communicate effectively with customers, volunteers and other employees.
  • Demonstrated strengths in accuracy, precision and attention to detail.
  • Ability to manage confidential information with responsibility and integrity.
  • Demonstrated flexibility and adaptability (will include flexibility of hours)
  • Commitment to ongoing professional development.
  • Be proactive and be able to manage stress.
  • Customer focused
  • Ability to manage stress and handle emotional situations while retaining empathy
  • Ability to work in the field which requires physical fitness, and all weather conditions
