About the role:
Teach and support student learning in the Bachelor of Veterinary Nursing courses within the department of Arts, Education and Agritech.
There are a number of sessional (casual) positions available for lecturers demonstrators and/or placement supervisors in a range of subjects.
Successful applicants will collaborate with ongoing academic and support staff to maintain a high quality student learning experience, and assist as required with the further development of applied research and scholarship in the Bachelor of Veterinary Nursing.
Duties:
Your duties will vary pending on the role you are hired for, below is a list of some duties you may be required to undertake.
- To deliver the curriculum effectively through a variety of different learning strategies and platforms including online.
- Develop high quality, current, industry relevant, evidence-based and copyright compliant online and face-to-face materials, lectures, tutorials and workshops.
- Deliver learning experiences to students in an authentic, relevant, engaging and student-centered manner. Using appropriate learning strategies having given due consideration to the length of the session, intended learning outcomes and needs of the student body.
- To communicate effectively with students and respond appropriately to their needs.
- To ensure that assessments are appropriately marked and graded and that students are given appropriate and timely feedback in accordance with the relevant Assessment Policy and Procedures.
- Assist with the implementation, ongoing development and student support aspects of the Work Integrated Learning (Clinical Placements) program in collaboration with the relevant coordinators.
- Support Senior lecturers in the undertaking of research and scholarly activities in team-based projects where applicable, that are consistent with the Department’s and Melbourne Polytechnic’s overall higher education scholarship and research strategies.
- Support the implementation of effective strategies for course promotional activities and student recruitment and selection.
- Contribute to the retention and student success strategies in line with Higher Education Directorate and course requirements.
Skills and experience required:
- A Master's degree in field relevant to Veterinary Nursing OR a relevant undergraduate degree and/or postgraduate qualification with significant experience in the veterinary industry.
- Demonstrated significant experience in the veterinary industry as a veterinary nurse or veterinarian, in one or more of the following areas:
- General practice nursing, including reception
- Surgery
- Emergency and Critical care
- Radiology and other forms of imaging
- Anaesthesia and pain management
- Shelter medicine
- Large animal/mixed practice
- Equine
- Clinical pathology
- Practice management
- Demonstrated ability to establish a scholarship and research profile.
- Experience in supporting the teaching and/or mentoring of tertiary students, especially as related to flexible and blended learning
- Effective communication and organisational skills in order to support student teaching and learning
- Excellent interpersonal and relationship building skills to liaise effectively with relevant industry and professional organisations.
- Demonstrated knowledge of and commitment to Occupational Health and Safety, Anti- Discrimination, Quality Assurance and Continuous Improvement
Desirable:
- A formal qualification in tertiary teaching or interest in studying in this area.
- Experience in working in a diverse educational environment.
- Demonstrated experience supervising work-integrated learning in animal studies or a veterinary nursing related field.
- A developing record of research and scholarly outputs.
