Minimum Qualifications
- Credentialed veterinary technician who graduated from an AVMA CVTEA accredited program OR Doctor of Veterinary Medicine.
- Master's degree or higher in an area relevant to the study of veterinary medicine OR 18 hours of graduate-level coursework in a field related to veterinary medicine.
- Current license, certification, or other designation as required by local, state, or federal laws to work in the veterinary field; ability to become licensed in North Carolina.
- Experience with curriculum development and teaching veterinary medical professionals.
- Excellent interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills.
- Demonstrated experience and competency on a range of veterinary technology core curriculum topics, including (but not limited to): anatomy, physiology, companion/large animal/exotic animal nursing and preventive care, practice management, surgical nursing, clinical pathology, dentistry, pharmacology, diagnostic imaging, anesthesia/analgesia.
- At least five (5) years of occupational (i.e. practical) experience within the veterinary field.
- Relevant practical experience and/or educational background for course(s) taught.
Areas of Interest (No Minimum Level Required)
- Veterinary Technician Specialty (VTS) certification and/or education/certification in Higher Education.
- At least two to three years of teaching experience in a higher education environment.
- Experience teaching in an online environment and group facilitation.

Description of the Department or Unit
Come join Appalachian State University's new Veterinary Technology Program! This vibrant, online program with on-site clinical externships is looking to add faculty with a passion for excellent instruction and proven clinical experience to educate the next generation of veterinary technicians.

The Department of Rural Resilience and Innovation (RR&I), the newest department in the College of Arts and Sciences at Appalachian State University, will serve as a hub for those working on scholarship, teaching, and service with rural community partners. The department's focus will be on four major areas: rural health and wellness, sustainability (broadly defined), rural-urban interdependence, and community-engaged scholarship and practices.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
The Veterinary Technology Lecturer is a veterinary medical professional and educator who understands, and is able to convey the defined roles and specific relationships of veterinarians and credentialed veterinary technicians/veterinary nurses in the veterinary healthcare profession.
The Lecturer will develop and teach courses within the Veterinary Technology Program, working as a member of a departmental team, to educate and support students who will possess the knowledge and skills necessary to pass the Veterinary Technician National Exam (VTNE) and to thrive in the veterinary medical profession.
The faculty member will work with the Veterinary Technology leadership team to develop and coordinate curriculum development activities, complete assessment of learning outcomes, and ensure compliance with the American Veterinary Medical Association Committee for Veterinary Technician Education and Activities (AVMA CVTEA) accreditation standards.
The faculty member will plan and instruct in a manner consistent with current veterinary practice standards and effective online teaching methodologies.
Full-Time Lecturers are being sought to teach the Core (1000-3000) level courses in the curriculum in one or more of the following subject areas: anatomy, physiology, companion/large animal/exotic animal nursing and preventive care, practice management, surgical nursing, clinical pathology, dentistry, pharmacology, diagnostic imaging, anesthesia/analgesia.
