Description
The Harper and Keele Veterinary School is seeking to appoint and experienced and suitably qualified veterinary academic into a novel lectureship which will lead on the development and integration of Veterinary Human Factors training within the BVetMS programme.
At the school, we recognise that the integration of human factor training in the undergraduate curriculum is an essential evolution of veterinary education; a requisite for optimising clinical performance and patient safety outcomes. We are looking to appoint a colleague who shares this vision and can help us design innovative and contemporary frameworks for non-technical skill development which will enhance graduate preparedness for any role in the veterinary profession.
The successful candidate will have full access to a range of resources necessary to integrate human factor training. The pinnacle of this will be the new Consort E3 Laboratory, a digitally enhanced, state-of-the art, veterinary immersive simulation suite which is based at our Keele campus. This brand-new facility is set to be a sector leading veterinary simulation and experiential training centre, designed around the learner and optimised for human factor training. Three weeks of intramural rotations have been protected within the curriculum to ensure that the time required for authentic and impactful, outcomes-based simulation training is available.
Ultimately, to maximise the potential of this role, the successful candidate will need to be a creative and forward-thinking team player who can bring not only their educational experience and understanding of Veterinary Human Factors, but their vision and aspiration for what can be achieved with these resources at their disposal.
The role will require academic leadership to coordinate resources and expertise across both universities, to support colleagues in the integrate veterinary human factor training across the programme, to provide faculty development, engage with external stakeholders and to undertake educational scholarship to inform an evidence-based approach to veterinary human factor training.
The appointee will be expected to demonstrate a commitment to the school’s widening access to the veterinary profession for students from all backgrounds and to embrace and engage in the school’s culture of innovation in teaching and learning.
To be successful you will require a degree in veterinary medicine, be a member of the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons (or eligible). Previous educational experience will be required, and candidates will ideally hold fellowship with Advance HE. Relevant post-graduate veterinary qualifications are desirable.
The appointee will be primarily based at Keele, however the role will require regular travel between Harper Adams and Keele University for delivery of teaching and learning activities and for relevant administrative duties. Flexible working practices are supported by the school wherever possible.
The Harper & Keele Veterinary School values equality and diversity across our workforce and to ensuring our staff community is reflective of the diversity of our student population. In support of these commitments, we welcome applications from individuals of Black, Asian, and ethnic minority backgrounds for all roles.
