James Cook University Singapore’s School of Science and Technology offers undergraduate degrees in the areas of Aquaculture, Environmental Science, Information Technology and Games Design. The University also offers Higher Degree by Research programs such as Doctor of Philosophy and Master of Philosophy.

The School is seeking to appoint a Full-Time Lecturer with broad expertise in the areas of Aquaculture and Environmental Science to make significant contributions to teaching and all activities of the organisational unit and play a significant role within the discipline. The appointee will teach into the Bachelor of Science and Bachelor of Business and Environmental Science programs and play an active role in the maintenance of academic standards.

Responsibilities:

  • Teaching into the Bachelor of Science and Bachelor of Business and Environmental Science programs.
  • To make a significant contribution to all activities of the organisational unit and play a significant role within the discipline.
  • Leading and participating in service to the University and actively contributing to governance and collegial life of the University.
  • Play an active role in the maintenance of academic standards.
  • Participation in other aspects of University service where appropriate and as requested by the Campus Dean

The appointees will be experienced academic / faculty members and will be responsible for teaching and supervision in undergraduate courses in Aquaculture and Environmental Science.  Applications are invited from candidates with a PhD qualification with a focus in any of the areas above. This is a teaching focused position, although appointees will be encouraged to develop their research interests alongside teaching duties.

 

Key Selection Criteria

  • Essential Criteria:
    • PhD in Aquaculture or associated area of the Environmental Sciences with demonstrated knowledge of aquaculture
    • Evidence of quality teaching and supervision of students at the undergraduate and/or postgraduate level
    • The ability to teach across a broad range of subjects at undergraduate level, including but not limited to Sustainable Aquaculture, Evolution, GIS and Sustainability
    • Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective relations with colleagues in an academic environment and with people from diverse backgrounds
    • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Desirable Criteria:
    • A track record of research publications
    • Experience in curriculum development, management, and quality assurance

Employment type: Fulltime position subject to Ministry of Manpower Singapore jurisdiction and a probationary period

Remuneration and conditions: The positions command an appropriate remuneration package commensurate with qualifications and experience. All employment salary arrangements are offered in SGD. Candidates must consider the lower tax structure in Singapore and the organisational practice of Annual-Wage-Supplement equal to a month’s salary at the end of the calendar year (as eligible) subject to JCU board’s decision.

Lecturer: SGD $83,000 per annum – SGD $128,000 per annual
Senior Lecturer: SGD $113,000 per annum – SGD $157,000 per annum
*The level of the position offered will be determined by the interview panel.
