Description

The University of Surrey is one of the UK’s leading public research universities and we are proud to be ranked 9th in the UK in the National Student Survey. Our Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences comprises four schools, working together under a ‘one health’ vision, with state-of-the-art facilities and equipment providing the latest technologies for interdisciplinary research and teaching in human and animal health.

We are looking for a Lecturer in Veterinary Anaesthesia to join our School of Veterinary Medicine. This is the only School in the UK with a distributed teaching model, aiming to inspire and educate veterinary professionals who will advance veterinary medicine to meet the needs of a changing world. We embrace the traditional values of professionalism, scientific curiosity, and clinical excellence, while developing graduates with broad horizons and competence from day one.

The role

This teaching focused role will allow you to share your enthusiasm, knowledge and experience in veterinary anaesthesia with our undergraduate students. You will have oversight of all anaesthesia teaching within our programme and will support practical teaching in anaesthesia - both on-site in lectures and practicals, and off-site at our surgical neutering facility at The Mayhew Clinic in London (travel expenses will be covered).

Clinical research interests are encouraged and supported through work with student projects, and you will have access to our extensive partner network with which to undertake clinical projects focussing on your chosen area. Interest in educational research related to teaching anaesthesia and related fields is also encouraged.

The role will ideally be offered on a full-time basis (36 hours/week).

About you

We are looking for an expert in veterinary anaesthesia with the passion and enthusiasm to share your expertise with our students. It is essential that you are registered with the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons (MRCVS/FRCVS), hold a post graduate qualification in veterinary anaesthesia, and have extensive clinical experience and practical competence in veterinary anaesthesia across all species. Teaching experience and/or a teaching qualification is desirable, and you will be supported with gaining the Postgraduate Certificate in Learning and Teaching/Higher Education.

What we can offer

In return we offer a generous pension, CPD budget (including help with specialist registration fees), opportunities to maintain clinical skills, relocation assistance, and flexible working options including blended home/campus working locations. There is also access to world-class leisure facilities on campus, a range of travel schemes, and supportive family friendly benefits including our Bright Horizons on-site workplace nursery, which has an excellent 91% parent satisfaction score.
