About This Opportunity
We are looking for an experienced Lecturer to teach into the undergraduate and postgraduate programs in veterinary science, veterinary technology and science with a focus on Production Animal Medicine. This will include herd health, husbandry and handling, nutrition, and reproduction for the major production animal species.

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Design and deliver evidence-based, engaging curriculum using various teaching methods, including online and blended formats, across undergraduate and postgraduate programs in veterinary science.
  • Coordinate, prepare, and teach lectures and tutorials; design assessments; and contribute to developing new, relevant course materials in consultation with stakeholders.
  • Maintain and enhance course quality through evaluations, ensuring alignment with industry and educational standards, and provide academic support and guidance to students.
  • Engage in partnerships to document and share effective teaching practices, contributing to curriculum improvements and innovation.
  • Stay updated within the discipline and engage in ongoing professional learning to enhance teaching practices and maintain curriculum relevance.
  • Understand and apply relevant University rules and policies in teaching, ensuring compliance with institutional standards.
  • Develop a research program in production animal medicine or related fields, contributing to advancements in the discipline
  • Engage in pedagogical research to improve teaching practices and support a growing profile in the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning.
  • Support the translation of research into practical applications, including opportunities for commercialization of UQ's intellectual property.
  • Supervise postgraduate students and junior staff, promoting responsible research practices and facilitating engagement opportunities.
  • Model UQ values, participate in School and Faculty committees, and lead by mentoring others and managing internal service roles.
  • Liaise with industry, government, and professional bodies on key issues in Production Animal Medicine and Reproduction, actively representing the School's interests.
  • Participate in production animal clinical rotations, including emergency and afterhours support, to provide high-quality veterinary services at UQVETS Gatton.
  • Demonstrate sound financial responsibility as a member of the Veterinary Teaching Hospitals team that offers veterinary clinical services to clients in a fee-for-service arrangement conducted in a teaching hospital environment.

About You

  • A degree in Veterinary Science or equivalent that is registrable in Queensland. Equivalent foreign qualifications may be considered in conjunction with other relevant qualifications.
  • Demonstrated expertise and current clinical experience in the area of Production Animal Medicine, Dairy Herd Health, General Practice, and or related disciplines.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop innovative teaching programs in veterinary production animal medicine and general practice at 'Day One' competency level, and related disciplines.
  • Previous teaching experience in the area of production animal medicine, general veterinary practice or related disciplines. Teaching experience at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels is desirable.
  • Evidence of a contribution to research that may include applications for competitive external grants, and publishing in peer-reviewed journals and other veterinary publications.
  • Capacity to provide an excellent clinical role model for colleagues and students.
  • Demonstrated ability to work flexibly with use of initiative and autonomy.

The successful candidate may be required to complete a number of pre-employment checks, including: right to work in Australia, criminal check, education check, AHPRA registration, mandatory immunisations, first aid and/or CPR certification, blue card check, etc.
