Salary: £35,327 - £40,928 pa
Hours of Work: Full time 35 hours plus additional paid out of hours work
Tenure: The post is to cover a period of maternity leave available as soon as possible for for up to 12 months
Role Overview:
This Practice Clinician post within the Department of Livestock and One Health is available from February 2022 for 12 months to cover maternity leave. It is based at the Leahurst Farm Animal Practice, situated on the University of Liverpool’s Leahurst Campus on the Wirral Peninsula. The post is full-time and includes involvement in an out of hours rota (with senior colleague backup if required), for which a supplement is paid. This role will give an experienced farm animal veterinary surgeon the opportunity to work in an academic environment whilst still retaining a substantial clinical caseload.

Leahurst Farm Animal Practice provides a complete clinical service to local farmers and smallholders, including routine visits for fertility work, foot trimming and herd health visits as well as attending individual animals. Facilities are available for in-patient care and referral cases are accepted. The Livestock Health and Welfare department has an excellent relationship with the equine department, and the high quality facilities of the Philip Leverhulme Equine Hospital are used for radiography, anaesthesia and surgery of farm animal cases when necessary.

Vacation time is contractually up to 6 weeks.

• be registered with the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons, or eligible for membership, and ideally hold a post-graduate qualification in a relevant area.
• carry out small group tutorials.
• participate in student examinations and assessments.
• take responsibility for individual cases and herd/flock health whilst teaching undergraduate students to a high standard.
• participate in the out-of-hours (OOH) rota, for which a supplement is paid.
• hold a full driving licence to allow you to drive yourself and students to farm visit. In addition you must be happy to tow trailers under 750kg to allow you to take cattle crushes to farms when required.
