About the Role

Flinders University is the first university to offer an animal behaviour degree in Australia. Our Animal Behaviour degree has the highest number of enrolments within the College of Science and Engineering's Natural Science teaching program. The team of Animal Behaviour academics have a unique breadth of research focus spanning across terrestrial and aquatic environments, including vertebrates (lizards, birds, sharks, marsupials, and marine mammals), invertebrates (spiders), and animal-plant interactions (e.g., pollinators).

Our demonstrated capacity to do both pure and applied animal behaviour research on a wide diversity of marine and terrestrial wildlife distinguishes us from other institutions in Australia and offers a solid platform for Flinders University to take leadership in this area. Many of our animal behaviour academics focus on the synergy and linkages between animal behaviour and conservation biology, and the integration of animal behaviour into conservation efforts, to enable informed decision-making and policy setting.

In this role you will deliver quality research and undergraduate/postgraduate teaching in an animal behaviour discipline that builds and compliments Flinders University current strengths in the field. This includes the development of teaching materials, delivery of lectures/tutorials or other innovative teaching and learning strategies, examinations, and placement education. There is potential to conduct collaborative research with members of the Ecology, Evolution and Environment Research Section, and you will also contribute to strengthening existing partnerships or exploring new partnerships with external stakeholders that have potential for providing improved teaching, learning and/or research outcomes for the University.

About You

You will be a high-level communicator, with well-developed interpersonal skills to effectively coordinate, workflow and provide informal day‐to-day feedback to research support staff and casual academic teaching staff according to the University's policies, practices, and standards. You will demonstrate a passion for enhancing student success, including enhancing their retention and initiatives to facilitate their employability. To be successful in this role you will also demonstrate:

• Completion of a PhD in a relevant area.
• Evidence of, or capacity to, undertake high-quality teaching in a tertiary environment, including involvement in topic/course coordination and curriculum design.
• Independent contribution to the development, delivery and evaluation of innovative teaching and learning strategies.
• A strong track record of animal behaviour research in a field and/or laboratory-based context including animal handling and the application of new technologies.
• Experience with e-learning technologies.
