The Team
The position of Leading Biosecurity Officer Apiary forms a part of the Biosecurity and Agriculture Services branch within the Agriculture Victoria group.
The Biosecurity and Agriculture Services (BAS) branch designs and delivers services, provides technical advice and influences policy to support the agriculture sector to achieve sustainable growth while managing risks and minimising adverse impacts to the economy, environment and public health and safety.
The Role
Reporting to the Biosecurity Manager Apiary, you will form part of the statewide team responsible for the operational delivery of the Plants, Chemicals and Invasives (PCI) unit's apiary program.
The key accountabilities of the role include, but are not limited to:
- Be authorised as an inspector under the Livestock Disease Control Act 1994 (bees only)to undertake compliance and enforcement activities as required under that act and its associated regulations.
- Oversee development and continuous improvement of BeeMAX including BeesOnline on behalf of the Plants, Chemicals and Invasives Unit.
- Deliver all contracted outputs to the agreed standards and timeframes required for the National Bee Pest Surveillance Program while providing leadership for supporting staff as the key reporting officer to Plant Health Australia.
About You
To be successful in this role, you will have significant experience as an apiarist with practical knowledge, a proven ability to handle bees, and knowledge of bee hive management as well as extensive knowledge of honey bee biosecurity. If you can demonstrate experience in leading bee pest surveillance projects along with leading compliance and enforcement activities, then this could be the position for you.
