About the RSPCA Qld Wildlife Hospital

RSPCA Queensland Wildlife Hospital provides care to over 24,000 native animals every year. The Hospital operates 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. We work closely with a range of external and internal stakeholders including the RSPCA Qld Rescue Unit and Inspectorate teams, wildlife rehabilitators, members of the public and other clinicians within the South-East Qld Wildlife Hospital Network. In addition, the hospital provides veterinary care to approximately 1000 pet birds and 150 pet reptiles each year.

 

About the role

We are seeking an experienced wildlife veterinarian who, in conjunction with the Wildlife Veterinary Director, can help lead the day-to-day clinical operations of the hospital. The successful applicant will have excellent time management skills, the ability to prioritise and manage a busy case load and be comfortable in providing clinical mentorship to a veterinary resident and other team members when required. This role will best suit those who thrive in a fast-paced environment with a high case load. This position will involve a mix of day and evening shifts with regular weekend work required.

 

Who are we looking for?

  • Bachelor of Veterinary Science or equivalent and registration with Queensland’s Veterinary Surgeons Board.
  • Membership or other certification in wildlife/zoological medicine.
  • At least 7 years’ post graduate experience.
  • At least 2 years’ clinical experience with wildlife.
  • Current radiation user licence.
  • Completed lyssavirus vaccination course (or willingness to obtain).
  • Excellent medical and surgical skills.
  • Excellent time management skills and the ability to work well under pressure.
  • The ability to work collaboratively as part of a team and independently when required.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Well-developed interpersonal skills.

This is a full-time position working across a 7 day roster and based at our Wacol Animal Care Campus. Weekend work will be required. A competitive remuneration package commensurate with qualifications, skills and experience will be offered.
