About This Opportunity 

The primary purpose of these positions is to provide operational/technical assistance and instructional support to undergraduate practical teaching, and to perform clinical duties in the Veterinary Teaching Hospitals.

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Provide high quality nursing and technical services within the clinic and to assist in the undergraduate teaching of veterinary students and Veterinary Technology students in a clinical environment and in the fields of animal handling, management and husbandry;
  • Assist with tutoring and demonstrations during practical classes and tutorials for undergraduate veterinary science and veterinary technician students;
  • Prepare and collate materials as needed to support the School's practical coordinator in their role;
  • Collection, storage and preparation of cadaver specimens for undergraduate teaching;
  • Order consumables and keep an up-to-date inventory;
  • Assist in practical aspects of research including collection and recording of scientific data as required;
  • Record keeping as required to satisfy the requirements of the Government Sector Organisations;
  • Perform rostered nursing duties and clinical teaching within the Veterinary teaching hospitals during non-teaching periods

 

This is a full-time (100%%), fixed-term position for up to 1 year.

At HEW level 4, the full-time equivalent base salary will be in the range $68,735.35 – $72,968.15, plus a generous super allowance of up to 17%. The total FTE package will be up to $80,420.36 – $85,372.74 annually.

 

About You  

  • Certificate IV in Veterinary Nursing and/or Bachelor degree in Applied Science (Veterinary Technology) or equivalent.
  • Demonstrated Production Animal and Equine handling and nursing experience of a high standard
  • Current Manual Australian Driver's License.
  • Sound working knowledge of farm animal production enterprises and an ability to transfer and apply this knowledge in practical terms.
  • Knowledge and skills in the use of computer software packages for word processing, data storage and retrieval, email, spreadsheets and other administrative activities.
  • Demonstrated interest in participating in undergraduate teaching.
  • Knowledge of Animal Ethics requirements an advantage.
  • Physically fit and ability to undertake physically strenuous work activities outdoors, in all seasons, with exposure to animal biological materials.
  • Reliable, dependable, and adaptable availability, including as required for early starts and/or late finishes.
  • Attention to detail, pride in work and demonstrated motivation toward delivering best possible work task outcomes.

 

In addition, the following mandatory requirements apply:

  • Work Rights: You must have unrestricted work rights in Australia for the duration of this appointment to apply. Visa sponsorship is not available for this appointment.
  • Mandatory Immunisations: It is a condition of employment for this role that you will be required to provide evidence of immunisation against certain vaccine preventable diseases.
  • Medical Clearance: Working with laboratory animals is an inherent requirement of the position. The appointment is therefore subject to, and conditional upon, satisfactory medical clearance(s), including disclosure of relevant medical history, to undertake such work without unreasonable risk to your health and safety. In addition, the Employee is required to fully comply with necessary ongoing health monitoring procedures and control measures associated with the position.
