Rural Animal Technician

We are looking for a Technician in our mixed animal practice.

About Us

Wanganui Veterinary Services Ltd is a mixed animal practice located in beautiful Wanganui.

We have a great team and are focused on providing the best service for our customers and improving the health and welfare of all animals we deal with. We also have a team actively managing Vetcare Grazing, a heifer grazing scheme with over 9000 animals under management.

Your Role

We are looking for a Large Animal Veterinary Technician and Heifer Grazing Technician. The full-time role is varied in nature as you will work with both Vetcare Grazing and Wanganui Veterinary Services.

Wanganui Veterinary Services would include conveyor work and its’s organisation, calf de-budding and castration, applying dry cow therapy and sealant, assisting veterinarians, selling and delivering goods from both Wanganui Veterinary Services and Wanganui Farm Supplies, and much more.

Vetcare Grazing would include weighing and monitoring stock, delivering animal health products, assessing feeding levels, using our computer programme and weighing monitors,

uploading data.

We are looking for someone with:

• an agricultural qualification or equivalent experience
• previous experience in a veterinary or farm environment
• good communication, with strong organisation and time management skills
• the ability to work well within a team environment and also independently.
• ability to multi-task, remain calm under pressure and be detail oriented.
• physically fit, with good large animal handling skills
• be able to drench, capsule or vaccinate on a conveyor

Previous experience would be desirable, however full training will be given. If you enjoy working with both people and animals, opportunities on farm and outdoors and plenty of variety then this could be the job for you.
