This exciting opportunity will position the successful applicant at the forefront of cutting-edge research in wildlife biology, ecology, and conservation, in addition to contributing to the provision of effective and timely wildlife diagnostic testing within the hospital in-house laboratory.

 

Job Description:

We are seeking a motivated and skilled Laboratory Technician to join our dynamic team. As a Laboratory Technician, you will play a crucial role in supporting our research efforts focused on wildlife health, disease ecology, and conservation genetics, in addition to the provision of in-house hospital diagnostics.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Prepare and process biological samples (e.g., blood, tissue, faeces) collected from wildlife species
  • Providing support to wildlife veterinarians comprising of running in-house diagnostics including haematology, biochemistry, urinalysis and parasitology
  • Perform molecular techniques such as DNA extraction, PCR, qPCR, and LAMP
  • Develop knowledge and skills in immunological techniques such as ELISA’s and cell culture
  • Assist in maintaining laboratory equipment and in-house diagnostic machines, ensuring proper functioning and calibration
  • Maintain accurate records of experimental procedures, diagnostic data, and results
  • Assist with the organization and management of sample repositories and databases
  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to achieve research objectives and deliverables
  • Adhere to laboratory safety protocols and best practices
  • Assist with clinical duties as required

 

About You:

  • A Bachelor of Biomedical Science/or equivalent degree is preferred
  • Previous laboratory experience, preferably in diagnostics and/or wildlife research
  • Attention to detail and excellent communication skills
  • Problem solving skills and proactive mindset
  • Has high level of time management and organisational skills with a genuine ability to multitask and work independently
  • Strong work ethic and willingness to learn
