We are currently seeking a technical minded individual looking for a fantastic hands-on opportunity as a Laboratory Supervisor/Instructor (Animal Health) within the School of Health, Medical and Applied Sciences. In this exciting role, you will play a vital part in supporting cutting-edge research, teaching, and commercial activities related to animal health and science.

 

As our Laboratory Supervisor/Instructor, you will be responsible for delivering a wide range of technical expertise and support to our dedicated staff and students. Your role will encompass various aspects, including the health, welfare, and proper handling of large animals (cattle & sheep) used in research and teaching. Drawing upon your specialist skills and knowledge, you will contribute to the analysis and design of animal and laboratory facilities, ensuring compliance with relevant standards and specifications.

 

To be successful in this role, you must be able to develop technical laboratory skills, as well as have experience in assessment, instruction, and supervision. You will understand relevant standards, codes and regulations applicable to laboratory activities. You must be competent in the handling and management of large animals.

 

Position Requirements

  • A relevant degree with subsequent relevant experience in animal health, welfare and handling; or extensive experience and specialist expertise or broad knowledge in the management of large animal facilities; or an equivalent combination of experience and/or education/training.
  • Ability to provide technical support for animal holding facilities, manage equipment, and adhere to relevant standards, codes, and legislation.
  • Proficiency in preparing chemicals, operating/troubleshooting lab equipment, instructing on specialised equipment, processing biological samples, overseeing animal facilities, planning/delivering activities, and handling research animals of various sizes.
