Description

Exciting opportunity for a skilled person to join our organisation as Kennel Manager
The company

We are a non-profit, no kill, dog and cat rescue organisation that was started in the 1980s. The Homeless Animal Society and Boarding Kennels Inc. is a board-operated charity that is soon to open its brand-new state of the art facility in tropical Port Douglas as we have finally received our occupancy certificates for this new build.

We are looking to employ an enthusiastic animal lover who has a passion for animal welfare. This role is perfect for those who have a love for animals, or a genuine affection for them, and those who have experience in office management, or a background in business operations.

Your new role

Your role as Kennel Manager will be to assist the board in the day-to-day operation of this new facility. It is a perfect opportunity to put your stamp on this new property. We want someone to shine as they set up the operating procedures of this facility.
Our ideal candidate will have some experience in:

• planning the team's daily activities, coordinating and overseeing the aspects of kennel operations to ensure the highest quality of pet welfare and care
• training, mentoring and directing all animal kennel staff and volunteers
• delivery of client services and communications that exceed client expectations
• issues management (monitoring, communicating and resolving)
• operational (daily) financial management, analysis, reporting, debt collection, invoice management and authorisation
• stocktake and purchasing
• adhering to and ensuring staff are complying with operating procedures, work health and safety and animal care requirements
• providing a high level of customer care, including complaint resolution and communication management
• identifying and implementing continuous improvement initiatives.
What you'll need to succeed

You will need a good knowledge of animal husbandry or kennel operations, along with some knowledge of animal disease transmission and prevention as training will be provided. You’ll also have experience in producing outcomes in line with legislation, local law, and council policies and have the ability to communicate effectively through written reports to the board.

You will have intermediate computer skills, and be confident enough to learn relevant software required for boarding. You will have the experience needed to deal with conflict resolution, along with oral communication and interpersonal skills to communicate tactfully in sensitive situations, and attention to detail. You’ll need a current driver’s license and you may be required to work flexible hours, which would include weekends or being rostered for after-hours duties.

This can be a live-in position as a brand new two bedroom unit is available if required furnished or unfurnished.

You will also:
• be comfortable in a kennel environment
• enjoy working with animals
• have proven ability as a team leader
• have experience managing others
• have a good administration background
• display excellent communication and organising skills
• work with attention to detail
• preferably have pet care health experience
• demonstrate initiative
• have Microsoft Excel, Outlook and Word skills. Knowledge of WordPress would also be an advantage but can be taught if required.

What you'll get in return

You will be given the opportunity to work alongside a dynamic team of passionate animal lovers. You’ll receive a healthy remuneration based on experience and flexibility of hours as well as the option of a two-bedroom caretakers’ property onsite. The position is open to the right individual but a couple would also be considered.
