Description

We are seeking a motivated, personable and proactive International Engagement Manager to join the Reform and Engagement Section at the Australian Pesticides and Veterinary Medicines Authority (APVMA) in Armidale or Canberra.

 

The successful applicant must be able to operate under limited direction and work collaboratively and collegiately with other parts of the agency and external stakeholders. The position will suit those who are interested in the regulation of Agvet chemicals, can build constructive relationships, think laterally, communicate persuasively, and exercise sound judgement.

 

The successful candidate will have skills in coordination, negotiation, and policy development. They will develop networks within the agency and across the Commonwealth public sector and be positioned to meaningfully influence how we engage with our international counterparts.

 

Reporting to the Director, Reform and Engagement, and working closely with the APVMA’s scientific and regulatory staff the International Engagement Manager will:

  • Lead the development and implementation of the APVMA’s international engagement strategy
  • Represent the APVMA in a range of forums, liaise with internal and external stakeholders and build productive relationships with APVMA’s overseas counterparts and international organisations
  • Develop, implement and evaluate APVMA’s program of work on Global Joint Reviews, use of overseas assessments and use of international data to support our regulatory work.
  • Work with business units to track and improve the APVMA’s use of overseas assessments and data, and to  develop action plans resulting from engagement initiatives that improve regulatory outcomes
  • Provide support to business areas involved in international activities through managing the international engagement email inbox and coordinating input to briefings.
  • In support of the APVMA’s Corporate Plan, work with the Stakeholder Engagement Manager to inform and implement the APVMA Stakeholder Engagement Framework and support the APVMA’s other engagement work including the development of Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs).
  • Ensure quality documentation and procedures are maintained and updated.
  • Provide support to the Director Reform and Engagement, and the Executive.

 

SELECTION CRITERIA

Essential:

  1. Good interpersonal and networking skills, and to be a highly articulate team player;
  2. Proven ability to provide advice on policy, complex problem solving and issues management;
  3. An ability to quickly gain an understanding of the agricultural and veterinary chemicals environment, and maintain an in-depth knowledge of relevant stakeholders and their expectations, and the APS operating environment more broadly;
  4. Demonstrated experience in project management including managing competing priorities and strategic directions when achieving project outcomes;
  5. Excellent written and verbal communication skills, to communicate effectively through different mediums and to a variety of audiences;

 

Desirable:

  1. Tertiary qualifications, majoring in science, political science, the arts, law or related disciples.
  2. Relevant experience with Australian primary production or in a regulatory environment will be highly regarded.
