Summary:
Are you passionate about animal welfare and eager to make a difference? We are seeking an enthusiastic Inspector – Administration Support Officer to play a vital role in improving the lives of animals in our community.
In this rewarding position, you will be the crucial first point of contact, assisting in coordinating investigations into reports of animal cruelty and neglect, working closely with our dedicated team to ensure that every animal is treated with the care and respect they deserve. Your role will also involve educating the public on responsible animal care and the relevant legislation, including the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act and Companion Animals Act.
Responsibilities:
- Respond as first point of contact for incoming cruelty or neglect reports, triaging and allocating jobs to the Inspector team as appropriate
- Logs animal welfare and cruelty complaints into Sheltermate
- Educates the community on looking after animals in their care
- Coordinates the rescue or removal of animals in immediate or potential risk and makes arrangements to accommodate them within AWL Shelters
- Provides appropriate assessment and interventions for emergency situations
- Ensures sanitation of animal transport carriers and vehicles to minimise the spread of disease
- Works with the Vet Team to ensure that all animals seized and taken to the clinic receive the required treatment in line with the outcomes required for that investigation
- Provides background information to the Vet Clinic, Shelter and Behaviour departments on all animals seized
- Keeps the Shelter Operations Team informed about the progress of investigations involving seized animals under their care
- Undertakes reporting and administrative duties including accurate entry into relevant databases
- Interprets and applies Animal Welfare legislation and provides accurate advice and information
Experience & Qualifications:
- Experience in animal care, husbandry and handling
- Background in either animal welfare or law enforcement, or equivalent professional experience in a related field
- Relevant qualifications such as Cert IV in Government Investigations and/or Cert II or above in Animal Care or Veterinary Nursing
- Full unrestricted Drivers licence
Skills & Knowledge:
- Proficient in using Microsoft Office Suite applications
- Adept in using Microsoft Excel
- High level of communication and interpersonal skills
- High level of attention to detail
- Conflict resolution skills
- Strong organisational skills
- Ability to work autonomously and multitask, as well as contribute to a team
- Confidently liaise with other organisations and stakeholders such as police, councils and veterinarians
