The Health, Safety and Environmental Advisor will be responsible for providing and managing an efficient and effective health, safety and environmental management system for the New Zealand and Australian commercial teams.  This person champions the company HS&E culture, strategy and initiatives and has the responsibility for ensuring everyone is “Safe by Choice”.

The Health, Safety and Environmental Advisor sits within the commercial organization and reports to the New Zealand  Business Unit Lead with strong reporting links to the Global Commercial Safety Organization and Australian Ruminant business Unit

 

WHAT YOU WILL DO

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: 

  • Develop and maintain company HS&E systems, processes and procedures. Develops strategies to achieve EHS goals in alignment with Global Safety and Environment department and company business goals, standards, and values.
  • Proactively influence EHS leadership, Business Leaders, etc. to drive prioritization of compliance by completing assessments and implementing new HS&E regulatory requirements and corporate standards and continuous performance improvement.
  • Proactively driving a commercial safety culture in all commercial field activities
  • Partners with Fleet Management, Service Providers, HR and business leaders to ensure compliance with Global Motor Vehicle Safety program.
  • Being the point of contact for new projects/commercial activity to ensure HS&E compliance as part of change management.
  • Managing HS&E incident / accident reporting and ensure corrective actions are implemented.
  • Managing the Hazard ID system and risk registers.
  • Conducting and participating in HS&E inspections and audits.
  • Maintaining a HS&E training matrix and coordinate HS&E training requirements.
  • Identifying improvements to the company’s HS&E systems.
  • Being the point of contact for staff, relevant regulatory bodies and the public on HS&E issues.
  • Generate, analyze and communicate HSE metrics to corporate.
  • Communicate clearly and concisely, technical and regulatory information to both senior level leaders and commercial employees.

 

Ensure the highest possible safety standards are met by:

  • Supporting the investigation and resolution of incidents and accidents in a timely manner.
  • Ensuring hazards are identified within the field services area of the business and assist with the implementation of controls. Escalates concerns through management as appropriate.
  • Participating in safety meetings. Chairing and keeping minutes for the meeting as required.
  • Overseeing contractor and third-party work programs and processes to ensure it is performed in a safe and appropriate manner as required This includes contractor education and monitor compliance, maintaining onboarding and review of H and S standards and risk mitigation of approved contractors.
  • Up to 30% travel may be required including travel to Australia.

 

WHAT YOU MUST HAVE

To be successful in this role, you will have:

  • NZ degree or diploma in a Health, Safety, Environmental or related discipline with relevant work experience.
  • Minimum 3 years post tertiary related experience within a Health, Safety or Environmental Advisory position within a manufacturing or commercial environment
  • Outstanding written and oral communication skills. Proven ability to present information clearly and concisely through all levels of an organization.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to influence others. Demonstrated leadership skills with the ability to quickly adjust to changing situations.
  • Experience with field activity safety, fleet safety and/or office safety.
  • Relevant EHS professional certification. Example: NEBOSH, CSP, CHMM, or equivalent.
