About Us

Animal Welfare League NSW (AWL NSW) is a registered charity operating for over 60 years. We provide expert care to surrendered, neglected and abandoned companion animals across NSW. The Animal Welfare League NSW veterinary team provides care to animals who may be surrendered to our shelter, branches or seized by our Inspectorate. Our veterinary team is responsible for ensuring the best welfare outcomes for the pets in our care, as well as providing routine treatment and surgery to help prepare our shelter pets for their new home. In addition to our standard clinic procedures, our veterinary team has a unique role in providing assistance with our Animal Care Truck which travels to regional areas, supporting our branch network to provide community services such as desexing, vaccination and microchipping drives. Our Animal Care Team and veterinary team also act a ‘Rapid Response Unit’ providing urgent medical care to pets, livestock and wildlife affected by bushfires and other disasters.

 

The Opportunity

You’ll be working within a team of highly skilled and passionate veterinary professionals under the banner of one of the most trusted leaders in animal welfare.

This Clinical Leadership position ensures the highest standards of animal care and welfare, with responsibilities including assisting with surgeries, enforcing clinic policies, managing complex medical cases, coordinating infection control, and overseeing nursing staff and schedules. You'll also engage in client education, maintain patient records, manage clinic supplies, and support our Animal Care Truck operations which provides essential support to communities affected by natural disasters, offering care for displaced animals and veterinary services.

 

Key responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Clinical Leadership & Management: Direct and oversee veterinary services including supervision of veterinary nurse team, ensuring high standards of animal care, assisting with surgeries and complex medical cases, and coordination of infection control and disease prevention protocols
  • Training & Development: Overseeing scheduling and staff performance, ensuring compliance with professional standards and approved protocols, provide training and mentorship to junior veterinary nurses while continuously enhancing processes and policies
  • Stakeholder Management: Providing client education, handling client enquires, treatment plans and providing compassionate support when necessary
  • Research & Professional Development: Collaborate with national and international research bodies and staying updated on advancements in veterinary medicine and assist with team collaboration with all AWL NSW departments to ensure healthy and productive working relationships

About you

  • Cert IV Veterinary Nursing & at least 10 years of industry experience.
  • Proven experience in Leadership, management, communication, problem-solving, compassion, and decision-making.
  • Advanced medical and surgical nursing knowledge.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and handle multiple tasks simultaneously
  • Proficient in computer skills and ability to learn new software programs
  • Desired previous experience in a shelter/rescue environment
