About the role
An exciting role to manage the veterinary nursing team in one of Sydney’s leading not-for-profit animal welfare organisations. This unique and varied role will involve overseeing the daily hospital nursing operations while also being involved in the growth of this highly regarded organisation.
The Head Veterinary Nurse will be responsible for:
- Leading, supervising and supporting the nursing staff
- Induction, training, and continual development of nursing staff
- Regular appraisals and performance management of nursing staff
- To develop and improve veterinary nursing processes and procedures
- Work closely with the Head Veterinarian to coordinate the consult and surgery schedules
- Perform high level nursing tasks without supervision
- Assisting with general and surgical nursing duties
- Assisting in the development and running of veterinary related programs including student, volunteer, and community programs
- Approaching patient treatment and care with compassion and the use of fear-free nursing techniques to support the animals’ welfare
- Participation in community education programs, animal welfare events, media, and fundraising campaigns
- Collaborate with other departments in an efficient and respectful manner to achieve the best possible outcome for all animals in care
Desired skills and experience
- A Cert IV in Veterinary Nursing or equivalent veterinary nursing qualification
- At least 5 years nursing experience
- Strong nursing skills covering all aspects of medical and surgical veterinary care
- A commitment to or willingness to integrate fear-free handling
- A desire to continually promote companion animal welfare through education and support of the community
- A positive outlook and willingness to be involved in all aspects of the organisation
- The ability to work closely with a team as well as autonomously
- Experience working in animal welfare field will be highly regarded
- Management experience will also be highly regarded
