Geelong Animal Welfare Society (GAWS) is a not-for-profit leading animal welfare organisation providing best practice care, education, shelter, re-homing, and community veterinary services across the Geelong region.

GAWS is seeking to appoint a Head Veterinarian to assist in ensuring the efficient and smooth operation of the Veterinary practice and collaborate closely with the shelter management team. This is a great opportunity for the right individual to join a team of passionate professionals.

About the Role
Reporting to the CEO, key responsibilities of the role will include:
- Overseeing the day-to-day and smooth operations of GAWS community veterinary practice.
- Provide clinical provision of veterinary services to shelter animals and private GAWS clients.
- Assist in continuing to develop a veterinary service that adds sustainable value to GAWS.
- Manage direct reports including development of rosters and adequate staff numbers for the provision of services.
- Lead the veterinary team to ensure all staff provide a professional service with a strong focus on excellent customer service and best practices in veterinary welfare and care.
- Lead and contribute to a positive and inclusive work environment through effective communication and collaboration across the business.
- Assist the management team to expand the community support initiatives and grow the clinic.
- Contribute, prepare and manage the veterinary budget, including regular reviews and reporting.

This is a Full Time position (part-time hours will be considered for the right applicant), with remuneration commensurate with your qualifications, skills and experience.
About You
GAWS are seeking applications from experienced candidates, ideally with experience in a similar role who have a passion for animal care and welfare.
The ideal candidate will have experience previously managing a team in a busy animal welfare environment or vet practice. You will have excellent knowledge of veterinary practice management and strong small animal clinical skills.
You will possess excellent organisational skills and the ability to prioritise workload and competing priorities in sometimes challenging situations.
You will have excellent communication skills and the ability to manage the day-to-day operations of the veterinary practice and contribute to the wider GAWs strategy and shelter operations.
You will have the ability to work well autonomously and within a team and share GAWS passion for providing the best standard of care for the animals in the practice and the shelter.
The Musts
- Relevant Veterinary qualification & registration with Veterinary Practitioners Board
- Previous veterinary operations and staff management experience
- Strong interpersonal communication skills (written and verbal)
- Excellent customer service ethos
- Demonstrated high standard of veterinary practice
- Experience in a not-for-profit or animal welfare organisation is highly desirable
- Familiarity with Sheltermate and customer logic systems is highly desirable
- Police Check or willing to obtain
- Australia Drivers Licence
