The Role
Greyhound Racing NSW is seeking a Head of Veterinary Care and Education to be responsible for the care, advice, research, development and implementation of contemporary animal health, safety and welfare standards, strategies, frameworks, polices and compliance for greyhound racing in NSW. The role is responsible for ensuring animal welfare is integral to the sport and central to how GRNSW exercises its functions and powers.
Duties
Key responsibilities include yet are not limited to:
- Provide expert advice and hands-on support for greyhound care, welfare, and rehoming services.
- Drive excellence in animal health care through innovative strategies and continuous improvement.
- Develop and lead policies, programs, and initiatives to prioritize greyhound safety and welfare.
- Address systemic and emerging welfare issues to ensure sustainable and improved outcomes.
- Implement monitoring and evaluation systems to assess welfare strategy outcomes.
- Advise senior leadership on welfare issues and evidence-based policy development.
- Promote cultural change and awareness of animal welfare in a racing context.
- Manage complex stakeholder expectations and foster relationships with industry and community representatives.
- Advocate for greyhound racing and welfare, enhancing public and governmental trust.
- Identify and deliver training to improve stakeholder knowledge and practice standards.
About You
- Bachelor of Veterinary Science and/or animal welfare/behaviour tertiary qualifications.
- Postgraduate tertiary qualifications in a relevant veterinary science or animal welfare field highly desirable.
- Extensive experience and highly advanced contemporary research and analysis skills, along with evidence-based policy development skills.
- Experience and advanced understanding of contemporary animal welfare practices and application within a racing context preferred.
- Extensive experience operating in a complex environment at a senior level.
- Demonstrated leadership, project and program management experience.
- Strong stakeholder management and interpersonal skills.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Change management experience.
