Description
The Irish Equine Centre (IEC) is an independent, not-for-profit organisation whose aim is to protect the health and wellbeing of Ireland’s horse population through the provision of diagnostic laboratory services. It is an integral part of the Irish horse industry and has served the sector for 40 years. Its ethos is primarily focused on its “public good mandate” and it serves as a vital insurance policy against existing and emerging equine diseases and the introduction of exotic pathogens. There is no similar laboratory or facility in Ireland, commercial or state-aided, that serves the Irish equine herd and works solely to prevent and eradicate equine diseases and protect animal health.
The IEC has an international reputation as a Centre of Excellence in equine diagnostic services, in the conduction of applied research and in the provision of educational services to veterinarians, breeders and trainers.
Our client base is a diverse community across the thoroughbred, sport and leisure horse sectors and covers the 32 counties of Ireland. The profile of equine clients ranges from world-leading thoroughbred studs, training yards to sport horse livery yards and owners of one or two riding horses. More than 700 veterinary practices and individuals make submissions to the IEC.
The impending retirement of our most valued and long serving current Head of Pathology has resulted in a need to seek her successor.

You will evaluate histological and cytological samples to produce descriptive and interpretive reports for submitting veterinary practices including where required, formats appropriate for insurance purposes. You will be responsible for reports from your unit to the International Collating Centre, while recognising at all time, the need to preserve client confidentiality.
You will be part of the leadership team of the Irish Equine Centre that will shape and develop the strategy of the organisation and continue to champion outstanding relationships with our major stakeholders and clients.
You will manage and develop the IEC Pathology service and its staff and take pride in developing their skills through continuous improvement whilst ensuring a safe working environment.
