Head of Department (Further Education) - School of Animal, Rural and Environmental Sciences (ARES)
Nottingham Trent University. Brackenhurst Campus
£71,993 - £77,798 per year
We’re a small and friendly School, and pride ourselves on the diligence and enthusiasm of our teaching and support teams. Our staff have a genuine passion for their subjects and are active researchers or practitioners, committed to helping students realise their ambitions.
Our vision is empowering staff and students to have positive impact on our planet, through improving the health and wellbeing of environments, animals, plants and people. Our goal is to now enhance and further embed the School’s reputation, by developing our pedagogy, resources, perspectives and ambitions towards this vision.
It’s a challenge we’re excited about, and one that we hope inspires you.
We’re looking to appoint a Head of Further Education in the School of ARES to help to shape and deliver the schools’ strategic objectives and lead the school’s Further Education portfolio and provision developments.
You will be a proven leader and excellent communicator, with a passion for innovative pedagogy, excellent student support and experience, and quality enhancement. In collaboration with the other Heads of Department and School Executive Team, and answering to the Executive Dean of the School, you will look for ways to continue to enhance the student experience, from evaluating and implementing innovative pedagogic techniques, to ensuring students benefit from additional opportunities, and ultimately maximising our students’ employability or suitability for further study. As this is a senior leadership role with line management responsibilities, and, a student-facing role, you will need to have exceptional communication skills and require a good broad knowledge of Further Education, ideally with knowledge of land based subject provision.
Enquiries may be made directly to the Executive Dean of the School of Animal Rural and Environmental Sciences, via email to: dawn.scott@ntu.ac.uk. Applications should be made online via the NTU jobs page, by going to www.ntu.ac.uk/jobs.
Applications should be supported with a full curriculum vitae detailing relevant qualifications and experience, full employment history and any relevant achievements. CV’s should be accompanied by a covering letter describing briefly how candidates meet the criteria outlined in the person specification, why the appointment is of interest and what they believe they can bring to the role.
Based on the 200-hectare estate of Brackenhurst campus, the School of Animal, Rural and Environmental Sciences (ARES) is comprised of a dedicated team of teachers, lecturers, researchers and students who are committed to the same vision of empowering staff and students to have positive impact on our planet, through improving the health and wellbeing of environments, animals, plants and people. Our goal is to now enhance and further embed the School’s reputation, by developing our pedagogy, resources, perspectives and ambitions towards this vision. It’s a challenge we’re excited about, and one that we hope inspires you.
With our current Further Education provision including BTec, level 2 and level 3, T levels and Access to HE in subjects spanning Agriculture, Animal Care, Animal Management, Equine Management, Countryside and Apprenticeships, your interests will need to be within the land based sector with recent experience of vocational qualifications to help us further enhance our academic offer. Our campus is fully equipped with laboratories and specialist units for agriculture, animal and equestrian studies, environmental conservation and food technology.
