About the position

ANU has an international reputation for research and education relevant to the health and well-being of the population of Australia, as well as that of the developing world. This is achieved through discovery research, applied research in health service settings, research-led teaching in health and medical sciences, and the translation of research findings into practice and policy. The ANU College of Health and Medicine comprises the School of Medicine and Psychology, the John Curtin School of Medical Research and the National Centre for Epidemiology and Population Health. These schools work together to deliver world-class research and education across the spectrum of medicine and health-related fields, working in partnership with the health sector at local, national and international levels.  

The Australian Phenomics Facility (APF) is a key research infrastructure component of the ANU’s biomedical research discipline and provides vital research services across the ANU and wider Australian research community.

The Head of Animal Services will provide senior management, strategic direction and leadership for the delivery of research animal services including excellence in service delivery, maintenance of animal welfare and husbandry standards, budget management and veterinary advice and consultancy. The selected individual must build strong collaborative cross functional relationships among the various stakeholders.

Under the broad direction of the Director, the Head of Animal Services will work with JCSMR management and College management to maintain the provision of excellent animal services to internal and external clients, stakeholders and collaborators. The Head of Animal Services oversees the coordination of colony maintenance and providing specialist support in the way of veterinary advice and expertise. The position is responsible for the management of the legislative and statutory requirements as they relate to animal welfare within a research animal facility.
