As part of a small hands-on team, the Hatchery Technician plays an integral part in supporting the Hatchery operations to ensure the welfare of our fish is maintained at a high standard. THE ROLE

Reporting to the Hatchery Manager, the Hatchery Technician will be responsible for:

  • Routine water quality system monitoring and complete all required paperwork
  • Data entry, weight checking, grading, feeding of fish
  • General maintenance and cleaning of equipment
  • Routine quality system monitoring, attending to night shift alarms and general support

This role will operate on a full-time basis working 7 days on, 7 days off and may be required to cover overnight shifts (including weekends) to monitor and respond to site alarm systems. Based at our South Springfield Hatchery, East of Launceston, TAS.

 

ABOUT YOU

  • Ability to communicate effectively with team and external stakeholders
  • Have a high attention to detail, with excellent record keeping skills
  • Self-motivated to work independently and within a team environment
  • Have a desire to grow in the field of Aquaculture and fish husbandry
  • Practical fish husbandry experience or related field (desirable)
  • A basic understanding of fish biology and water chemistry (desirable)
  • Be physically fit and able to work in all weather environments

 

LICENCES

  • Current driver’s licence with the ability to drive manual vehicles
  • Forklift and/or confined space licence or willing to obtain
  • Qualification in Aquaculture or related field (desirable)
