Our Greyhound Veterinary Assistants are an important part of the racing services team during each race meeting at Cannington, Mandurah or Northam.   They provide assistance and support to the On-Track Veterinarian and assist with the transportation of greyhounds around the track and to external veterinary facilities, as required.

 

Position Requirements:

• Assist the on-track veterinarian with examinations of greyhounds;
• Confidently handle greyhounds for a range of purposes such as examinations and treatments;
• Maintain stock control of veterinary supplies and other equipment;
• Maintain veterinary equipment so as to keep it in good working order;
• Ensure a hygienic environment at all times;
• Transport of greyhounds around the track and on occasion to external veterinary facilities;
• Assist with logging examinations and other information in a database system, printing reports and ad hoc administrative duties.

 

Experience, Knowledge, Skill and Abilities Required:

• Certificate IV in Veterinary Nursing (students will be considered) is highly desirable OR
• Certificate III or IV in Animal Studies/Companion Animal Services or equivalent;
• Excellent dog handling skills;
• Experience with the animal care industry, specifically with a focus on dog care. Veterinary industry experience will be advantageous;
• Ability to work autonomously and as part of a team;
• Ability to use initiative;
• Friendly and confident to communicate with a wide range of people;
• Ability to work under pressure and exercise a high level of emotional maturity;
• Current "C" class driver's licence;
• Ability to obtain a police and/or medical clearance upon request;
• Availability to work evenings, weekends and public holidays.
