About the company
Our client is an innovative New Zealand company that has developed a slow-release bolus device delivering targeted doses of a methane inhibitor (a synthesized, naturally occurring organic compound) to livestock. The technology leads to a remarkable 100% reduction in methane emissions from ruminants. The unique solution is adaptable across all farming systems globally, holding the potential to make significant impacts on climate change.
About the role
A comprehensive development program has been running for several years, reaching the stage of refining prototype devices and conducting animal studies. This senior role is pivotal in planning, implementing, and delivering the global field study strategy. The outcomes of the field trials will inform future product development and provide science-based evidence to validate bolus product performance, safety, and animal welfare.
A key aspect of this role is to identify research partners and field study providers in the US, the UK, Europe, and Australia and engage them to achieve the global study strategy.
Specifically, you will:
- Be responsible for developing and delivering field animal studies for technology validation and further development.
- Identify and manage relationships with offshore trial providers, grant funders, farmers, industry stakeholders, and regulatory agencies (Australia, North America, Europe, and potentially Asia and South America).
- Collaborate with product development and regulatory teams to ensure R&D activities meet overseas compliance standards.
- Manage and recruit direct reports in New Zealand and overseas.
- Prepare grant applications, plans, budgets, reports, and analyses for various stakeholder groups.
The role is based in the company’s Auckland headquarters and reports to the Head of Research & Product Development. Significant offshore travel is expected for this role.
About you
- At least a Master’s level qualification in Veterinary Science, Physiology, Pharmacology, Biology, Nutrition, or similar. PhD preferred.

- Minimum of 10 years of managerial experience.
- Demonstrated leadership attributes and a track record of leading high-performing teams.
- Demonstrated ability to develop relationships with diverse stakeholders.
- Excellent communicator, with demonstrated ability to influence board members and stakeholders by presenting scientific arguments.
- Skills and proven experience in project management.
- Courage to challenge the status quo.
- Commitment to lifelong learning.
Benefits
- Join a highly innovative company with exciting technology and huge potential to solve a critical global challenge.
