Established in 1964, the Animal Welfare League South Australia (AWL SA) proudly provides animal welfare and care through the development and provision of high-quality services and centres for animals in need. The AWL SA’s focus is the re-homing of lost, surrendered and abandoned animals and re-uniting lost pets with their owners, which currently achieves by caring for and re-homing around 9,000 animals per year. AWL SA has two shelters currently operating at Edinburgh North and at the new state-of-the-art Animal Care Centre at their Wingfield site.

Role Overview

Reporting to the Chief Executive Officer, the General Manager Fundraising and Marketing is responsible for the leadership of the AWL’s marketing and fundraising strategy, donor acquisition, events and relationships across all giving streams, building mutually beneficial partnerships with corporate partners, ambassadors and directing stakeholder management.

Other key responsibilities of this position include:

• Developing and implementing an overarching marketing and fundraising strategy to generate and increase funds and support;
• Developing a partnership plan to establish new corporate sponsors in line with AWL’s Strategic Plan;
• Developing and maintaining effective external relationships;
• Managing resources, budgets, assets, projects, volunteers and staff to maximise the achievement of goals;
• Managing the ambassador programs;
• Preparing monthly Board reports addressing all marketing and fundraising strategies.

Skills, Knowledge and Experience 

The successful candidate will demonstrate an ability to plan and implement a range of fundraising opportunities including lotteries, events, appeals and campaigns. They will possess excellent people management skills and be able to foster an environment of collaboration and innovation to exceed team goals. The successful candidate will demonstrate strong business acumen and be an exceptional communicator, who possesses strong interpersonal, negotiation and influencing skills.

AWL is seeking a passionate person with high-level relationship management skills and the ability to establish and maintain corporate partnerships. The successful candidate will be tertiary qualified in business, fundraising or other similar disciplines or hold a CFRE or FIA certificate of Fundraising. Strategic marketing experience within the NFP and an understanding of the animal welfare sector is highly desirable for this role.
