Position overview 

The Australian Chicken Meat Federation (ACMF) is the national peak industry body, covering all elements of the industry including chicken growers and processors. The ACMF represents the $6.6 billion Australian chicken meat meat industry which collectively employs 58,000 people.

This position is primarily responsible and accountable for managing the day-to-day coordination, development and implementation of activities, projects and policy in relation to the animal health, animal welfare and food safety programs of the Australian chicken meat industry, as well as providing assistance in other areas of the Association's activity and project/policy implementation as required.

The General Manager has an important function in building and maintaining the reputation and profile of the organisation, including with members, the government, other affiliated industries, and the public, and managing operations and stakeholder engagement.

Preference for candidates located in Sydney or Canberra, but negotiable, some travel may occur from time to time. Full time or part time - negotiable with a minimum of 3 days per week.

 

Key responsibilities and accountabilities 

  • Contribute to, and in some cases lead, the development, implementation, communication and reporting of industry policies, national industry standards, procedures and practices.
  • Undertake the analysis of industry trends, issues and statistics
  • Represent the industry and its interests in a range of fora
  • Report to the CEO and board on activities undertaken and issues identified
  • Contribute to the development of media releases and other media materials
  • Assist in the administration of industry committees
  • Build and maintain productive stakeholder relationships with key industry bodies, including grower and producer groups, and with governments, industry customers and relevant aligned associations and community organisations through consultation and strong professional relationships
  • Support a high-performance organisational culture

 

Qualifications and experience 

  • Relevant tertiary qualifications – veterinary, science, agriculture, biosecurity, animal health, food safety, livestock production, or equivalent experience.
  • Prior industry/member association experience or experience in the agriculture/food sector will be highly regarded but not essential

 

Selection Criteria: 

  • Ability to build effective networks and work constructively with a broad range of stakeholders, including industry, government, scientists, and senior executives/board
  • Ability to manage multiple complex technical projects/tasks simultaneously
  • A strong background and experience in policy development, including policy research and drafting, stakeholder engagement, member consultation and review processes.
  • Demonstrated ability to apply initiative and strategic thinking, and represent the organisation professionally and with integrity
  • Highly developed communication skills – both verbal and written
  • Ability to work independently under limited direction, and also as part of a team
