Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary (CWS) is set across 27 hectares of natural bushland and rainforest located in Currumbin, on the Gold Coast and is the Head office of NTAQ (National Trust of Australia Queensland). This year we celebrate 75 years as an iconic eco-tourism attraction showcasing and conserving native wildlife and are proud to advise we have been recently awarded the Silver National Award for Best Major Tourism Attraction.

About the role:
The CWS General Manager is a high-profile role interacting with multiple stakeholders ranging from Board members to staff, volunteers, guests, suppliers and community members. You will report directly to the CEO of NTAQ, be part of the NTAQ Senior Management Team and manage the CWS operational department heads as your team of direct reports.
The focus in this role is to optimise the profitability and financial sustainability of CWS by innovatively managing key elements such as quality of visitor experience, site presentation and maintenance, attractions, health, safety and security responsibilities plus also enjoy the responsibility of facilitating positive community engagement and stakeholder relationships.
This full-time role is based at CWS, to be worked across Tuesday to Saturday each week, but subject to change based on business needs.
About you:
- Proven experience as an inspirational General Manager or Commercial Senior Manager leading a commercial visitor-based organization, preferably in Tourism or like industry.
- You have exceptional interpersonal and communication skills.
- You are a friendly and effective leader who enjoys interacting with internal and external stakeholders, being an effective collaborator and negotiator who thrives on challenge.
- You have an entrepreneurial mindset and preparedness to be hands on as required.
- You take responsibility for business performance and profitability and support your direct reports to succeed in their portfolios.

Role responsibilities include:
- Effective department leadership to optimize business outcomes.
- Provide day-to-day management and planning.
- Oversee department budgets to ensure profitability and cost targets are met.
- Evaluation, development and deployment of systems and processes to achieve operational efficiencies.
- A commitment to an innovative and high quality international-standard guest experience by delivering appropriate site presentation and functionality.
- Deliver problem solving and support to overcome challenges, look for efficiencies and manage day-to-day operations in a fast-paced multifaceted environment.
- Management of commercial projects from concept to implementation.
- Provide effective leadership managing compliance and risk.
- Provide monthly reports to the CEO for NTAQ Board submission, and present operational updates .
- Maximize operational efficiencies and take a lead in the ongoing development of CWS in line with the CWS Masterplan and NTAQ Strategic Plan.
- Perform community engagement duties and leverage networks to positively promote the CWS brand and secure productive partnerships.
- Collaborate closely with the senior leadership team and CEO in undertaking cost plans and analytical reviews to enhance further business opportunities.
Selection Criteria:
- 5 years demonstrated success and experience in leading delivery of profitability within core commercial areas of food and beverage, events, retail and ticketing.
- Very strong people skills including managing, leading and developing commercial teams.
- Awareness and interest in conservation, sustainability, animal welfare and tourism / hospitality attraction management.
- Ability to write and deliver business plans for multiple and diverse departments.
- Formal qualifications in a business-related discipline will be highly regarded
- High level competency in Microsoft Office Suite and in writing complex business documents.
- Ability to develop successful and effective relationships with all related stakeholders.
- Will have strong networking and community engagement skills. Public representation and media experience desirable.
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to effectively deliver the organisation’s mission, vision, and values.
- A demonstrated track record of increasing business performance and achieving financial targets.
- Highly motivated to promote a positive culture that shares success and inspires excellence across all areas of the business.
- Knowledge of compliance, WHS risk and operational risk mitigation strategies.
- Must have physical fitness and be prepared to work in an outdoor environment in all weathers, in a role that requires substantial walking in a workplace that contains animals including birds and reptiles.
