The team at Monarto Safari Park currently require an experienced and committed General Hand to come on board and work on the exciting new Wild Africa development. The successful applicant will be guided by the Zoos values and work with the Wild Africa Project team to achieve the goals set out in both the Strategic Plan and Business Plan.
ABOUT THE ROLE...
This is a full time position which will work across our Wild Africa Project site providing support though activities that deliver project milestones ensuring they meet with requisite compliance standards. The primary purpose of this role is to perform general hand duties across site whilst offering support to our onsite trades.
Duties of this role will vary and may include:
- Provide support though activities that deliver project milestones, including:
- Fence construction
- Animal handling facility construction
- Road and track construction
- Visitor experience development
- Vegetation establishment/landscaping
- Carry out land management activities to ensure sustainable care for the project site, including:
- Pest and weed control
- Re vegetation and regeneration
- Biological and soil surveys
- Threatened species protection
- Monitoring and data collection of all of the above
- Carry out routine cleaning, maintenance and operational checks on all infrastructure, vehicles and machinery of the project site
- Maintain positive relationships with sponsors, external organisations, internal departments and individuals that contribute to delivery of activities
- Assist trades personnel with repair, construction, fabrication and demolition work
- General maintenance of infrastructure to ensure exhibits are structurally sound to contain animals in exhibit and holding areas
- Maintain roads and walking tracks
- Collect, transport and deliver items to and from the Zoo, including rubbish and waste materials.
- Clean items as required, including vehicles, drains, gutters, toilets, floors and equipment
- Operate forklifts, skid steers, tractors, loaders, excavators, 4WD vehicles and trucks where licensed and required
- Identify and report WHS issues and maintenance defects
ABOUT YOU…
To be successful in this role you must have previous General Hand experience assisting trades and be highly practical and multi-skilled. Preference will be given to those with metal fabrication and welding skills within a facility management environment. You must hold a current Manual SA Driver’s licence as well as forklift and tractor licences; experience using heavy machinery like excavators, dump trucks, loaders, etc. will be highly regarded.
A Working at Heights ticket would also be highly desired as you will be required to possess a sound understanding of working to high safety standards ensuring workplace safety is not compromised.
The successful candidate will be someone that has good people skills, pays close attention to detail and can manage their time effectively, working both independently or as part of a team.
