Job Description:

Position: Full-Time Faculty and Department Chair, Veterinary Technology (STEM and Business Division
Bargaining Unit: MCCC/MTA
Location: Danvers
Salary: Commensurate with education and experience (based on MCCC/MTA Salary Schedule)

GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES:

The Division of STEM and Business at North Shore Community College invites applications for a Full-time Faculty Chair of our Veterinary Technology Associate Degree program beginning in September 2023. The program, fully accredited by the American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA), operates in dedicated laboratory space at our campus in Danvers, MA and trains students to work in a clinical veterinary setting.

The Veterinary Technology Program admits 20 students per year, and the new faculty chair will participate in teaching and all areas related to program operation. The successful candidate must have the ability to relate to a student population that is highly diverse in academic preparation, cultural, socioeconomic, and ethnic backgrounds as well as physical and learning abilities.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Teach lecture and laboratory courses in the Veterinary Technology Program on the Danvers campus.
  2. Participate in curriculum development/revisions, program accreditation activities and reporting, evaluation of students in courses and/or internship sites, student advising, divisional/dept. meetings, and college service activities.
  3. Performs the duties of Department Chair for the Veterinary Technology Program such as but not limited to; admissions, recruitment, information sessions, maintaining external program accreditation, strategic meetings with the Dean, overseeing student progress in academic and clinical courses, and working with the Clinical Coordinator to obtain appropriate internship sites.
  4. Assist in the hiring of new faculty as applicable.
  5. Provide departmental input (review and update) for master schedule for each new semester.
  6. Submit textbook information for all departmental course offerings to the bookstore for each semester.
  7. Serve as the first level for resolving faculty and student issues pertaining to the delivery of academic instruction.
  8. Oversee the departmental budget, and order laboratory and instructional supplies as needed.
  9. Serves as the Veterinary Technology liaison with other departments within the College and as an external College representative when appropriate.
  10. Participate on ad hoc committees and attends internal/external meetings deemed necessary for department chair representation (as feasible with respect to teaching schedule).
  11. Send out and analyze results of graduate and employer surveys on an annual basis.
  12. Post and update annually the pass rate for graduates on the National Board Exam (VTNE)
  13. Maintain current membership with AVMA and MVMA.
  14. Participate in professional development opportunities to maintain expertise in veterinary medicine and integrate new methodologies and pedagogies into the curriculum.
  15. Perform other duties as outlined in the collective bargaining agreement.


Requirements:

  • Must hold a valid Massachusetts license as a veterinarian (must be in good standing).
  • Must have an earned doctorate in veterinary medicine.
  • Must hold or be eligible for a Massachusetts Drug License as well as a DEA license
  • Must have a minimum of five (5) years full time experience in the field of veterinary medicine including; practice as a veterinarian, administrative or supervisory experience.
  • At least one year of experience in a full-time academic appointment with teaching responsibilities strongly preferred.
  • Demonstrates an understanding of and experience with veterinary technology.
  • Demonstrates the academic and experiential qualifications and background necessary to meet program objectives and contribute to the mission of the college.
  • Successful experience interacting with diverse populations.
  • Candidates will be required to pass a CORI/SORI and/or National background check as a condition of employment.
