The School of Animal and Veterinary Sciences seeks to appoint a Veterinary Pathologist full time or part time on a 6 month fixed term contract to commence at the start of July 2023 whilst we seek to fill the position on a continuing basis.

The successful candidate will have a commitment to excellence in veterinary anatomical/clinical pathology and applied diagnostics and a passion for imparting knowledge and mentoring the next generation of veterinarians.

You will have either a Professional College specialist qualification (Fellowship of the Australian and New Zealand College of Veterinary Scientists, or a specialist Diploma from a relevant college of the American or European Boards of Veterinary Specialisation) awarded in Anatomical and/or Clinical pathology or related discipline or be eligible to sit Board examinations or have or be interested in membership of the Chapter of Pathobiology of the Australian & New Zealand College of Veterinary Scientists (or equivalent). You should also have relevant experience in pathobiology (dependant on level of appointment).

The successful candidate will be supported by a highly qualified team of professional laboratory technicians to deliver diagnostic excellence.  The candidate will liaise with the Director of the Veterinary Teaching Hospital for all high level administrative processes related to the Veterinary Diagnostic Laboratory (VDL).  They will act as a role model and mentor for junior staff members, veterinary students, professional staff and demonstrate a student-centred approach in the laboratory.

The successful candidate will make an important contribution to the education of the next generation of veterinarians and veterinary technologists by involving students in case management and modelling the highest standards of clinical excellence and professional behaviour. They will also have opportunities to undertake clinical research and other forms of scholarship.

You will work regular work hours and will not be expected to routinely work after hours or on weekend rosters.

 

To be successful you will need:

  • A qualification in Veterinary Science or equivalent degree that is acceptable for registration in South Australia.
  • Demonstrated experience in innovative and effective teaching, course coordination, supervision and mentoring of veterinary students and veterinarian technicians within a diagnostic setting.
  • Demonstrated ability to undertake original and independent research in a related area and supervise clinical research projects and/or postgraduate students.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage a diagnostic veterinary laboratory in a government, private or academic institution setting.
  • Demonstrated evidence of engagement with relevant professional and industry bodies to advance veterinary diagnostic education.

 

A qualification in Veterinary Science of equivalent degree that is acceptable for registration in South Australia is essential.
