Description
Feline welfare roles
Cat Protection is Sydney's leading feline charity, helping thousands of cats, and the people who love them, every year. We operate a no-kill shelter at our Newtown Adoption Centre and provide a range of welfare, advocacy, research and information programs from our Marrickville Welfare and Education Centre.
We're passionate about providing and promoting best-practice feline care, honouring the human-feline bond by helping people and their cats stay together, and working in a One Welfare framework, recognising that the health, welfare and wellbeing of people, animals and the environment are inextricably linked.
Our Feline Health and Welfare teams work on a rotating roster, alternating between our Adoption Centre in Newtown and our Welfare & Education Centre in Marrickville, providing direct cat care, as well as supporting our human clients with cat-related information and health services; adoptions; and retail sales.
We're looking for new team members (full-time and casual) as well as a contract project coordinator (maternity leave cover). Experience and/or qualifications in feline care and welfare are highly desirable but most important are your willingness and capacity to learn, your excellent communication skills and attention to detail, your enthusiasm for helping people, your compassion for animals, and your commitment to our mission.
Cat Protection makes a real and positive impact on cats and people; our work is demanding but incredibly satisfying. Whether you've helped to rehabilitate a sick and frightened stray cat and see them blossom into a confident, healthy cat who finds their loving forever home, or assisted a human client with information or services that help them and their cat stay happy and healthy together, each day you'll enjoy the value of your role.
We're determined to improve equity of access to cat care information and services for people from diverse backgrounds; we provide information in a variety of forms and community languages, and our aim is to reflect the diverse communities we serve.
Cat Protection is committed to a healthy and safe workplace. We ask all staff to be vaccinated for Covid-19 and have a current tetanus vaccination, no allergies to cats, and be committed to maintaining a safe and healthy workplace. Working in the Feline Health and Welfare teams requires good physical fitness as the role includes cleaning and disinfection of cat accommodation units, rooms, and equipment; lifting and moving goods and stock (including up and down stairs); and animal handling, including transportation.
If you have at least two years’ experience in a busy client-focused or animal care role, a driver’s licence, intermediate to advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office and experience working with Salesforce or similar CRM systems, plus of course a genuine commitment to helping people and cats, please send us your CV with a cover letter addressing the criteria listed below, by Monday 29 April 2024. Please note applications that do not include a cover letter addressing the criteria will not be considered.
Please tell us about how you meet these requirements of the role:
- Compassionate and sensitive to animals
- Desire to help people and to promote positive feline welfare
- Relevant work experience, including a demonstrated track record of excellence in customer service (& for the contract position, experience in coordinating projects)
- Capacity to organise tasks appropriately / time-management skills
- Strong attention to detail; accuracy in record keeping and data entry
- High level communication and interpersonal skills
- Commitment to the principles of diversity, equity and inclusion
- Motivated, positive and emotionally resilient
- Computer and CRM program skills and experience
- Commitment to work health and safety; physical fitness for the role; tetanus and Covid-19 vaccinations; no allergies to cats
- Driver’s licence
