Description
What you will do
As our Farm Supervisor, you will:
• Supervise the Wacol farm hand team. This includes but is not limited to:
o allocating roles, delegating tasks and establishing work priorities and monitoring work
o supporting staff well-being and learning and development.
• Prioritise and direct resources to ensure animal and farm related activities/targets are met and in accordance with the standards of the Code of Good Manufacturing Practice and Animal Ethics Committee, operating procedures, and regulatory and legislative requirements.
• Organise, coordinate, and perform animal related activities within the farm and quarantine shed, including but not limited to:
o animal care tasks for cattle (calves through to adults) such as cleaning and sanitation of animal enclosures, safe and humane handling, feeding, and exercising animals
o safe and low-stress handling and movement of cattle
o calf sampling and treatment to sick/unwell animals, as required and under the direction and supervision of a veterinarian
o biosecurity practices to ensure the disease-free status of the herd
o providing pastures and fodder to maintain appropriate nutrition levels.
• Coordinate and perform general farming activities, including:
o agriculture agronomic activities including land maintenance, preparation, pasture improvement and maintenance, weeding and chemical application o maintenance of water infrastructure (bores, solar equipment, pumps), fencing (including electric fencing) and other property infrastructure
o maintenance of light and heavy plant and equipment including general repairs, servicing, cleaning, adjustment and calibration
o maintenance of quarantine sheds.
• Monitor, record and report animal growth and general wellbeing.
• Ensure animal health, nutrition, welfare, and husbandry by observing and recording any abnormalities and reporting those issues requiring attention.
• Maintain an appropriate level of physical fitness and dexterity and promptly notify your manager of any injury, illness or loss of capacity to undertake standard physical tasks safely and efficiently.
• Communicate clearly and appropriately with managers, team members and members of the public and model good communication practices.
• Follow workplace health and safety procedures at all times and support team members in doing the same. This includes:
o safe, competent, and compliant use of all allocated tools, equipment and vehicles
o competent use including performing daily checks, reporting faults promptly and undertaking minor maintenance/cleaning as per standard operating procedures.
Essential requirements
• Commitment to obtaining vaccination, or provision of evidence of prior immunity, to Q fever will be required prior to starting with Biosecurity Queensland.
• Ability to undertake safe and efficient operation of farm plant and machinery, including tractors, front-end loaders, slashers etc.
• A current C Class driver's licence.
• A sound level of computer skills and literacy.
