Primary objective
To oversee the effective day to day operations of the Juno Centre Training Facility to ensure that it continues to provide a suitable learning environment for students and an effective environment for teaching staff and VET trainers to undertake their duties.


Context statement
The Juno Centre is a 250-hectare training facility based 10km east of Tennant Creek. Juno Centre is an operational farm set up to simulate real agricultural operations, such as livestock management and agrifood production. Juno has appropriate facilities to host the delivery of Vocational Education and Training (VET) training programs in various industry fields and is available for use across the region for residential training blocks.


Key duties and responsibilities
1. Oversee the daily operations of the Juno Centre including undertaking labour intensive tasks, transport and selling of livestock, monitoring and managing pasture, weed and land management practices, and procuring appropriate feed and provisions.
2. Regularly inspect and undertake general repairs and maintenance to buildings, grounds and infrastructure including taking action to report and resolve potential health and safety risks.
3. Provide specialist advice on farm management practices.
4. Maintain financial and administrative records related to the farm and manage a small team of farm hands.
5. Oversee the work of contractors to ensure work is completed satisfactorily, meeting specifications and regulations.
6. Provide technical and operational support and assistance to trainers and teachers in relation to the delivery of their educational programs, including attendance in classes as required.
7. Attend to the welfare of livestock outside of school hours at times, such as on weekends, during school holidays or during emergencies (cyclones, bush fires).
8. Promote and comply with workplace health and safety policies and guidelines including managing biosecurity risks to the environment and human, animal and plant health.


Selection criteria
Essential
1. Demonstrated ability to actively contribute to a team with strong verbal, written, ICT and inter-personal skills that foster and sustain productive working relationships.
2. Demonstrated ability to interact effectively with others in a diverse cross-cultural working environment including students, staff and stakeholders.
3. Demonstrated ability to liaise effectively with and monitor the work of external contractors, and the ability to carry out physical duties, including heavy lifting.
4. Broad experience in machinery operation and maintenance requirements.
5. Demonstrated practical experience working with livestock (including horses, cattle, goats and chickens) and in aquaculture and horticultural facilities, or similar environments.
6. Demonstrated awareness of relevant contemporary industry issues including animal welfare legislation and land management practices.


Desirable
1. Appropriate qualifications and/or training in a related discipline.
2. Qualifications in workplace health and safety and appropriate licences for high-risk work.
3. Certificate IV Training and Assessment.
4. Previous experience working with young people in an educational setting.


Further information
The successful applicant must have no significant criminal record and must have a Working with Children Clearance or the ability to obtain prior to commencement. The successful applicant will need a Medium Rigid vehicle licence prior to commencement. The successful applicant will also need to obtain an up to date First Aid certificate. A medical may be required to confirm the applicant’s fitness for the physical aspects of this position.
