Ross University School of Veterinary Medicine (RUSVM) offers a unique program of training on the island of St. Kitts in the Caribbean. A cutting-edge curriculum, with innovative use of technologies and simulations, provides the best possible training for tomorrow's veterinarians. Students benefit from seven semesters of integrated preclinical and clinical studies at our St Kitts campus, and one year of clinical training at our affiliate veterinary teaching hospitals in the United States, Canada, Europe and Australia.

Our ongoing research focuses on key issues strategically relevant to One Health in tropical and developing countries and includes zoonotic diseases, food safety and security, environmental health, and conservation medicine. We prioritize recruitment of talented faculty and are now seeking a key new member of our team to join us as we develop new programs to best prepare our graduates to face the global opportunities and challenges of veterinary medicine in the 21st century.

 

Job Description

About the Job:

We seek an experienced farm animal veterinary surgeon with further specialty training to join our dynamic team at Ross University School of Veterinary Medicine. Position responsibilities include delivery of didactic lectures in large animal medicine and surgery as well as bovine and ovine clinical skills teaching.  As an AVMA accredited vet school we strive to provide our students with an evidence-based curriculum in which they can excel. We believe that faculty development is key to our mission and hence we have excellent educational development and research teams to help you reach your career goals. Preference will be given to candidates with the ability to obtain external research funding, participating in national and/or international committees in their area of expertise as well as producing quality publications.

  • Provide challenging, student-focused, delivery of Farm Animal Medicine and Surgery courses utilizing multi-modal learning within a collaborative climate.
  • Commitment to student success and continuous learning through formative and summative assessment and curricular modification to ensure success of the students that is measurable.
  • Progressively build on student's skills and knowledge through well-designed course modules accompanying model based and live-animal laboratories.
  • Contribute to the development of novel research initiatives or continue evolving your established research profile while collaborating with our experienced research scientists in one of our 4 institutional research centers.
  • Knowledge of teaching and learning strategies to meet the needs of diverse learners.
  • Willingness to share talents with a sense of humor, and a hopeful, caring, and open attitude.

 

What is the structure and culture of the team like?

We are a small school with a diverse and proactive team focused on collaboration and providing a student and colleague centric environment of care and respect. You will join a team of 4 other large animal medicine focused professionals and 6 support staff colleagues.  The position will work under the guidance of the Division and Department Head.

Qualifications

  • DVM or equivalent is required.
  • Board certification in a farm/ production animal specialty or eligibility to sit for exams is preferred. Candidates with significant clinical and teaching experience will also be considered.
  • Preference will be given to candidates with a DVM and PhD
  • Previous teaching experience is required.
