The Purdue University College of Veterinary Medicine (PVM), Department of Veterinary Clinical Sciences (VCS), invites applications for a full-time (12 month) Tenure-track or Clinical-track position at the Assistant or Associate Professor level in Large Animal Surgery. PVM is highly supportive of individual faculty career growth and development. A formal faculty mentoring program is in place.

Qualifications for the position include a DVM or equivalent degree, and completion of a residency program registered by the American College of Veterinary Surgery (ACVS), or board certified by the ACVS. Candidates should have a sincere interest in developing an independent research program, providing outstanding clinical service, outreach, and teaching. Candidates must possess excellent interpersonal, communication, and teaching skills, and be able to work collaboratively with faculty, staff, house officers and clientele. The clinical responsibility will be caring for all large animal species with a predominant focus on farm animal surgery.

Expertise in farm animal surgery is expected. The successful candidate will participate in a shared on-call emergency service. Salary will be commensurate with the candidate’s qualifications and experience. A background check is required for employment by the University.

The successful candidate will actively participate in the discovery, learning and engagement missions of the PVM and VCS department. Important activities include: Discovery: All faculty are expected to collaborate on clinical research projects. Tenure track faculty are expected to develop an independent research program. Research that complements the interests and strengths of current faculty interests is ideal but can also be tailored to the candidate’s specific background and interests. Collaborative research opportunities are also available with the Weldon School of Biomedical Engineering, the College of Health and Human Science, the College of Agriculture and Lafayette Center for Medical Education. Clinical Service: Providing clinical service to patients of the Purdue Veterinary Hospital (typical time commitment: 30 -50% Tenure Track and 60-70% Clinical Track); supervising veterinary students, veterinary nursing students, and house officers; and building strong relationships with referring veterinarians. Back up emergency call is shared with other faculty. Learning: Excellent clinical, didactic and laboratory instruction of veterinary students, veterinary nursing students, house officers, and graduate students. Service and Engagement: Participation in committee work, professional organizations, delivery of continuing education, and other applicable activities.
