Illawarra Animal Hospital and Cannon & Ball Veterinary Hospital are looking for a Exotic & Small Animal Veterinary Nurse to join our team on the South Coast of NSW, Wollongong.

In addition to being a fantastic general practice hospital, the IAH team also has a special interests and strong competency in exotics, orthopaedic surgery, soft tissue surgery, medicine, rehabilitation and advanced diagnostic imaging. Our amazing team are supported with fantastic facilities and equipment including the latest digital x-ray, dental x-ray, high quality ultrasound, endoscopy, in house blood machines, an underwater hydrotherapy treadmill, laser therapy unit and many other great tools to help us provide the best care to our patients.

 

The Exotic & Small Animal Veterinary Nurse opportunity works closely with our Veterinarians and Practice Managers to provide support with their patient case load. This role will mainly focus on supporting exotic, native and small animal patients, with position details and duties below:

  • Demonstrate and undertake safe capture and restraint techniques of both native and exotic species.
  • Assist veterinarians during examinations and clinical/surgical procedures for both exotic, native and small animals.
  • Undertake laboratory diagnostic procedures, including sample collection and storage.
  • Calculate, prepare, and administer medications, including anaesthetics, under veterinary instruction.
  • Maintain veterinary medical and surgical equipment; keep associated maintenance records - reporting on issues as required.
  • Undertake associated administrative duties including recording and maintaining clinical treatment files, laboratory diagnostic test results and booking appointments.
  • Demonstrate a strong commitment to exotic and small animal clinical nursing continued education.
  • Liaise with clients and team members with regards to the animals in our care.

 

Illawarra Animal Hospital is committed to work life balance for our team. Our nursing team work four (ten hour) days a week. A maximum of one in three weekends (one day), with only three working days the following week after working the weekend.

Remuneration is above industry standards, depending on experience.
