Racing NSW is the statutory body for horse racing in NSW and owns a number of properties across the state as part of its Equine Welfare Program. Our Picton property is part of a joint venture with RSL LifeCare and is used for retraining and rehoming thoroughbred horses after their racing careers whilst also providing horsemanship skills to returned servicemen and women. The property includes 70 acres of paddocks and equine infrastructure.
As part of the Racing NSW Equine Welfare Team, the Trainer & Program Coordinator will be responsible for the property and oversight of the program with RSL LifeCare and will support the General Manager of Equine Welfare in delivering Racing NSW’s Equine Welfare Program.

 

The Trainer and Program Coordinator will be responsible for:

  • Overseeing project management of infrastructure improvements
  • Ensuring best practice equine welfare standards at all times
  • Retraining thoroughbred horses at the property for suitable new homes
  • Management and direction of staff and participants in the program, setting clear directions and goals
  • Education of program participants in horse safety, handling, and riding
  • Implementation and delivery of a program tailored to participants ensuring dual benefits for both horses and humans
  • Management of horse population ensuring all welfare needs are met and liaising with vets where required
  • Stakeholder management with RSL LifeCare
  • Implementing a property management program to ensure the property and pastures are maintained to required standards at all times
  • Implementing and managing procedures and internal controls to ensure the safe, efficient, and effective operation of the property
  • Preparing reports and business proposals for the GM – Equine Welfare

 

The successful applicant will ideally possess the below attributes:

  • A strong, compassionate, and patient leadership style.
  • Experience in managing and motivating staff and working as part of a team.
  • Experience in training, handling, and riding Thoroughbreds
