Equine Welfare Property Manager

Capertee

Racing NSW is the statutory body for horse racing in NSW and owns a number of properties across the state as part of its Equine Welfare Program. Our Capertee property is used for retraining and rehoming thoroughbred horses after their racing careers and includes 2,600 acres of paddocks and equine infrastructure.

As part of the Equine Welfare Team, the Property Manager/Head Trainer will be responsible for the property and support the General Manager of Equine Welfare in delivering Racing NSW’s Equine Welfare Program.

 

The Equine Welfare Property Manager will be responsible for:

  • Management and direction of all staff on the property
  • Retraining Thoroughbred horses at the property for suitable new homes and leading the retraining team
  • Implementing a property management program and ensuring the property and pastures are maintained to required standards
  • Implementing and managing procedures and internal controls to ensure the safe, efficient, and effective operation of the property
  • Liaising with Racing NSW Equine Welfare vets to ensure the welfare needs are met for the horses
  • Ensuring best practice equine welfare standards at all times
  • Preparation of reports and proposals for the General Manager – Equine Welfare

 

The successful applicant must have the below experience and attributes:

  • A ‘can do’ attitude and determination to get results
  • Confidence in handling, riding and retraining Thoroughbreds
  • Understand the suitability and identify prospective horses for sale
  • Experience managing staff and working as part of a team
  • Experience in managing a rural property, in particular pastures and maintenance
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Drivers license and own vehicle

 

The successful applicant will also ideally have the following:

  • Equestrian/Racing background is preferred
  • Hold an MR licence for operation of horse transport truck
  • Chemical Certificate
  • First Aid Certificate
