Description

Clinic Overview:

We are expanding our team and have permanent full-time (40-hour minimum) positions available for motivated Equine Veterinarians. The opportunities are based out of our Cambridge clinic; a full-service equine clinic located in the heart of the thoroughbred breeding, racing and general equestrian community in NZ. With our state-of-the-art facility and highly experienced team, we cater to all equine athletes and leisure horses.  We are well equipped with digital imaging modalities, nuclear scintigraphy, video and dynamic endoscopy, modern theatre and hospital facilities.

The Roles:

You will work in conjunction with a team of sixteen highly experienced veterinarians and their support staff. The rota is 1 in 4 for after-hours care and one weeknight per week. Ongoing professional development is encouraged both internally within the clinic, and with formal continuing education. This is a great chance to expand your knowledge and skills in a collegial environment with a highly professional and skilled team.

Position 1 will primarily be providing first opinion based ambulatory care and will start July 2024. The ideal applicant would have at least two years experience as an equine veterinarian / completed an equine internship and will be expected to service all aspects of equine veterinary care. We are committed to retaining and developing the interests of our veterinarians. Typically, a veterinarian may start as a general practitioner, but gradually develop particular interests and skill sets within the group over the subsequent years.

Position 2 is for an immediate start and is suited to an equine veterinarian with experience and passion for lameness, sports medicine and imaging. We have a high caseload of sport horses of all disciplines, excellent “work up” facilities, quality radiographic and ultrasonographic equipment, a facility for nuclear scintigraphy and will be installing a CT unit within the next 12 months. The structure of the position would be tailored to the experience of the applicant. The ideal applicant would be confident imaging all areas of the equine athlete, have experience performing pre-purchase examinations and have an understanding of the competition world and the unique pressures of the different disciplines on the equine body. There may be scope to develop a less experienced clinician under mentorship. Ongoing professional development and education is an essential component.  It is important that it is appreciated that the position is not purely lameness and sports medicine. The applicant will also cover general first opinion calls at times dependent on demand and will be part of the on-call roster for the clinic.

What We Offer:

The salary packages would be competitive and based on the applicant and their experience.  It includes a car, mobile phone, fuel and mobile plan expenses paid, 4 weeks annual leave, annual continuing education, professional indemnity insurance and vet council registration Applicants MUST be eligible for registration with the New Zealand Veterinary Council.  WEVC is an accredited employer and can assist with Accredited Employer Work Visa’s, if applicable.

Outside of your professional career, New Zealand offers huge opportunities for those who enjoy the outdoors with fabulous beaches, hiking, skiing and all aspects of water sports and offers a great lifestyle for families.
