Description
We are expanding our team and have a permanent full-time (40-hour minimum) position available for a motivated Equine Veterinarian. This opportunity is based our of Waikato Equine Veterinary Centre, Cambridge; a full-service equine clinic located in the heart of the thoroughbred breeding, racing and general equestrian community in New Zealand. With our state-of-the-art facility and highly experienced team, we cater to all equine athletes and leisure horses. We are well equipped with digital imaging modalities, nuclear scintigraphy, video and dynamic endoscopy, modern theatre, and hospital facilities.
This role is for an immediate start and is suited to an equine veterinarian with experience and passion for lameness, sports medicine, and imaging. We have a high caseload of sport horses for all disciplines, excellent "work up" facilities, quality radographic and ultrasonographic equipment, a facility for nuclear scintigraphy and will be installing a CT unit within the next 12 months. The structure of the position would be tailored to the experience of the applicant. The ideal applicant would be confident imaging all areas of the equine athlete, have experience performing pre-purchase examinations and have an understanding of the competition world and the unique pressures of the different disciplines on the equine body.
You will work in conjunction with a team of sixteen highly experienced veterinarians and their support staff. Ongoing professional development and education is an essential component both internally within the clinic, and with formal continuing education. This is a great chance to expand your knowledge and skills in a collegial environment with a highly professional and skilled team. It is important that it is appreciated that the position is not purely lameness and sports medicine. The applicant will also cover general first opinion calls at times dependent on demand and will be part of the on-call roster for the clinic. The roster is 1:4 for afterhours care and one weeknight per week.
The salary package will be competitive and based on the applicant and their experience and includes a car, mobile phone, fuel, and mobile plan expenses paid, four weeks annual leave, annual continuing education, professional indemnity insurance, Veterinary Council of New Zealand registration and annual practicing certificate fees paid. Applicants MUST be eligible for registration with the Veterinary Council of New Zealand.
